Review: Nuun Electrolyte Enhanced Drink Tabs

As you can see from some of our previous posts, it’s hot down here.  And while beer occasionally does the trick, I need something to use on a more regular basis after finishing my sweltering summer runs.

I picked up a tube of Citrus Fruit flavored Nuun from Big Peach Running Co. in Decatur about a month ago and decided to give it a try.

  • Slimy mouth-feel
Overall Impression
This stuff is pretty great!  Once I get to work, I toss a tab in my handheld, fill it up with ice-cold water and by the time I get back to my office and turn my fan on, it’s ready to drink.  Water by itself is fine, but after tossing back a bottle of this, I feel refreshed and replenished.  While I did notice a bit of a weird mouth-feel, it’s not a big enough issue to stop me from buying and using them in the future. The citrus fruit version has a subtle taste to it – it’s not overpoweringly sweet like the major sports drink brands.  I think this feature would especially be great for people who run ultramarathons.   While I haven’t personally experienced food/drink rejection on the trails, I’ve read of those who can’t stand the taste of certain food or drink after 20, 30 or 40+ miles.
